Dual Lookout Mountain Wins and Bannock Crit Podiums

Gwen Inglis and Kasey Clark take round out the Bannock podium
This was the first weekend that I’ve raced locally in over a month-it felt good to be home! On Saturday, I lined up with 10 other women for the Lookout Mountain Hill Climb. We broke the group up fairly early, leaving 5 of us going into the last half mile. I started my sprint super early, and was able to hold onto it for 1st, with 2nd finishing 1 second behind me. I had won this race as a time trial earlier in the year, so it was nice to have the double win!
Sunday was the Bannock Crit in downtown Denver, with temps reaching 95 and up. Sweltering hot, Gwen and I lined up with 14 other women for a 50 minute crit on the blacktop. Gwen and I were extremely aggressive, launching and countering attacks the whole race. Gwen had the biggest gap (solo for 3 laps) but the field reeled her in. We tried to get away at 3 and 2 laps to go, but it was to no avail-the local peloton was intent on bringing us back every time. We lined up for the sprint, me sitting 2nd wheel behind a Pro Design rider with Gwen on my wheel, but we were jumped by 2 GS Boulder girls 2 corners from the finish. I was able to get on that move and Gwen went around me for 2nd, with me getting 3rd. While we didn’t get the win, we had some great team racing tactic practice, and were applauded by onlookers for making the race fast and exciting.
